一只投资超材料商业化初创企业的新风投基金已经启动。超材料是一个刚起步的材料科学领域，可提高镜片和传感器等设备的性能，还能缩小这些设备的尺寸并减轻重量。
总部位于旧金山的MetaVC Partners将为该公司首只基金募资1亿美元，并已从微软(Microsoft Corp., MSFT)联合创始人、该基金锚定投资者比尔．盖茨(Bill Gates)和前微软首席技术官、目前经营知识产权公司Intellectual Ventures的Nathan Myhrvold那里获得投资。
MetaVC执行合夥人Chris Alliegro和Conrad Burke说∶“超材料作为一项核心技术即将在业界获得广泛采用。”Alliegro和Burke曾是Invention Science Fund的高管，Invention Science Fund是Intellectual Ventures的一个创业孵化器，催生了几家将超材料领域的进展商业化的初创公司。
