Singapore and France establish comprehensive strategic partnership

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met with the media after meeting with visiting French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron and announced the upgrading of bilateral relations with France, making France Singapore’s first comprehensive strategic partner in Europe. The two countries will expand cooperation in emerging frontier fields such as green economy, artificial intelligence, and nuclear energy, and signed a number of cooperation agreements covering defense and education.

Macron said that neither France nor Singapore is part of a superpower, and will not lean towards either China or the United States, but will cooperate with China and the United States as much as possible to bring prosperity and stability to the world.

Lawrence Wong also met with US Secretary of Defense Hegseth to discuss cooperation between the two militaries.

The Shangri-La Dialogue, an Asian security conference held for three consecutive days, opened in Singapore tonight, and Hegseth and Macron will both attend.
