Kazakhstan’s railroad shipments to China up 43% in January

Railroad traffic from Kazakhstan to China grew by 43% in January, it is reported.

In January, Kazakhstan’s exports of goods to China increased by 43% compared to last year and amounted to 1 million tons, the source said. At the same time, the export of iron ore grew by 19%, grain by 37%, ferrous metals by two times, non-ferrous metals by 2.2 times, as well as the volume of containerized export cargo transport by 2.2 times.

Overall, in January 2024, the volume of cargo transported by rail between Kazakhstan and China increased by 22% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 2.4 million tons.

According to the report, the volume of passenger traffic on Kazakhstan’s railroads increased by 6%, and in January this year the number of passengers amounted to 1.8 million. The highest number of passengers was recorded in the capital Astana: 502,500, which is 9.4% more than in the same period of the previous year. It was followed by the Aktobe, Karaganda, Mangosto and Kyzylorda oblasts. The lowest figures were recorded in Almaty, Sikha and Turkestan oblasts.
