According to Agence France-Presse and Reuters, the official website of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security said that the police officers who were killed were between the ages of 30 and 35 and were all posthumously promoted. The wounded also included local officials and civilians, but no casualty figures were provided.
According to the Vietnamese news agency reported that in the early morning of the 11th, a gang armed with guns broke into the police station of Yaxiao and Yaktuer in Gekun County of Dele Province and opened fire, resulting in the death and injury of a number of police officers, township cadres and people. Police rescued two hostages.
According to the report, a spokesman for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security said that as of 16:30 on the 11th, the public security forces in Dele province have arrested 16 suspects. Authorities are continuing to search for others involved. Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security also called on residents of Gekun County to remain calm and not panic.
Gun violence is extremely rare in Vietnam, where people cannot own guns and black market firearms are rare.
