China’s consumer prices rose 0.5% year-on-year

Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China on August 9 showed that in July, the national consumer price index rose by 0.5% year-on-year. Among them, the price in cities rose by 0.5% and in rural areas by 0.7%; food prices remained unchanged, non-food prices rose by 0.7%; consumer goods prices rose by 0.5%, and service prices rose by 0.6%. On average from January to July, the national consumer price index rose by 0.2% year-on-year.

The prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.2% year-on-year, affecting the CPI (Consumer Price Index) by about 0.07 percentage points. Among food, the price of livestock meat rose by 4.9%, affecting the CPI by about 0.14 percentage points, of which the price of pork rose by 20.4%, affecting the CPI by about 0.24 percentage points; the price of fresh vegetables rose by 3.3%, affecting the CPI by about 0.07 percentage points; the price of aquatic products rose by 1.2%, affecting the CPI by about 0.02 percentage points; the price of fresh fruit fell by 4.2%, affecting the CPI by about 0.09 percentage points.

The prices of the other seven categories rose by six and fell by one year-on-year. Among them, prices of other goods and services, education, culture and entertainment increased by 4.0% and 1.7% respectively; prices of clothing and medical care increased by 1.5% and 1.4% respectively; prices of daily necessities and services, and housing increased by 0.7% and 0.1% respectively; prices of transportation and communications decreased by 0.6%.
