German real estate mogul’s body turns up in freezer at Thai rental house

Last week, German real estate mogul Hans-Peter Mack went missing. According to a July 10 report in the New York Post, Mack’s body has now been recovered, dismembered and stuffed into a freezer at his friend’s rental house in Thailand.

As previously reported by the Bangkok Post, Mack was 62 years old and his wife was Thai. On July 4 (the day of Mike’s disappearance), Mike had a lunch date with his wife, but did not return home until 10 p.m. and sent a message to his wife saying he was still discussing business. His wife said that in the five years she had been with Mike, he never contacted her by sending messages. Later, when Mike never returned home, his wife reported him missing.

Mike’s family is offering an $85,900 reward for information leading to Mike’s location.

On the morning of July 9, local time, police found the Mercedes Benz that Mike was driving on the day he disappeared in an apartment parking lot. A local food vendor said the car had been parked here a few days earlier, during which time she also saw two women getting out of the car.

According to the head of the investigation, traces of coolant and cleaner use were found on the car’s seats, dashboard, steering wheel, and many other places, and said, “These traces are a sign of intent to destroy evidence, and indirectly indicate that Mike’s disappearance is highly suspicious.”

On the night of July 10, local time, police saw a suspicious scene in surveillance footage of a black truck, supposedly belonging to a foreigner, transporting a freezer. Following the truck’s trail, police located the rented house in Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok, where they found Mike’s body, which had been dismembered and placed in a garbage bag, in the rented house’s freezer. The freezer is understood to be the same as previously seen on surveillance.

Neighbors said that as early as three months ago, the rental house was occupied by Mike’s German friend Olaf and a disabled German woman, both of whom were Mike’s co-workers.

The police then interrogated the two men, along with another suspicious German. In addition, police believe it is likely that a Thai person was also involved in the murder.

Specific information about this case has not been disclosed and the police are still investigating.
