According to CNEWS television in France, the Paris city government has established a working group to explore coexistence with mice, calling for ways to improve the living conditions of citizens.
The television station quoted Anne Souyris, the deputy mayor in charge of health issues in Paris, as reporting that the working group will propose effective measures to prevent Parisians’ lives from becoming unbearable.
She stated that the task of the working group is to develop a “big plan for controlling rodent infestation”. We will purchase thousands of new trash cans and set up rat traps with poison if necessary.
The working group will also propose measures for citizens who litter.
Although mice are carriers of Leptospira, Souyris claims that mice will not have any impact on public health. She pointed out that the main risk group of Leptospirosis is garbage cleaners, and this group can be vaccinated.
The conclusion of the Paris city government was welcomed by non-governmental organizations protecting animals, which had previously supported the use of “non lethal” methods against urban rodents.
