The Ministry of Commerce released the assessment results for the 2022 Cross-Border E-Commerce Pilot on May 31.
The cross-border e-commerce pilot zones in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Yiwu ranked in the first tier. Zhejiang accounted for the highest proportion of these positions across the country. Seven pilot zones in Wenzhou, Huzhou, Jiaxing, Shaoxing, Quzhou, Taizhou, and Lishui ranked in the second tier.
The evaluation primarily focused on the implementation of pilot zone plans, establishment of work mechanisms, implementation of facilitation policies, annual import and export volume, annual export growth rate, number of high-tech enterprises, and number of overseas warehouses, among more than 40 indicators.
Currently, Zhejiang has been approved for a total of 12 pilot zones, achieving full coverage at the provincial level ahead of others. Cross-border e-commerce has become an important support for stabilizing and improving the quality of foreign trade in Zhejiang.
In 2022, the province’s cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 422.28 billion yuan ($59.25 billion), an increase of 18.7 percent compared to the previous year, ranking second in the country in terms of scale.
Among them, exports amounted to 291.13 billion yuan, representing a growth of 23.7 percent. From January to April 2023, the province’s cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 150.03 billion yuan, an increase of 23.4 percent compared to the same period last year. Exports amounted to 111.67 billion yuan, showing a growth rate of 30.0 percent.
